Be Careful! Any wrong answer can raise brows…
You could have any reason to find a new job… That reason could be negative or positive…
Negative reasons are stronger, loud, and numerous. For instance, you are tired of the leg-pulling politics… You dislike your boss or colleagues… your pay is low as compared to your work…You are experiencing a stressful environment… Your workload is beyond your expectation and strength, and you are burned out……Not satisfied with the company status (small), Not satisfied with the career opportunities, Not satisfied with the company policies, Your company started downsizing… Or even worse you are fired…
Positive reasons could be looking for career growth, a jump in a career, more managerial positions, and higher salary with benefits, multinational company, more responsibilities, and a more ambitious outlook…
If you started abusing the previous company, that puts a huge negative impact on you!
Even if you have a bad experience with the company, you must choose to answer in very safe words…
Don’t say that you don’t like working overtime and that your former employer gave you a lot of work. Your interviewer would start judging you that you like to shirk work. Or maybe you don’t like to do what you are doing…In this case, they would bombard you with a lot of questions to judge your situation…They will think you don’t enjoy your work because if employees love their work, they don’t get too sensitive with time…At Least they don’t say it…And saying it to a new employer is not a good idea…
If you identify that you don’t like the people around you, then they may think you have behavioral problems. And they would ask questions to judge your personality. Show respect for your former employer. If you abuse people, that would make your personality-less likable.
Everybody in this world looks for better opportunities and higher benefits. So you could defend yourself that you wanted to have career growth and this opportunity will elevate your growth. And it would open more learning opportunities for your development.
Focus on the positive aspects of the company you are applying for rather than on the negative aspect of the company you are leaving behind.
Show them that it’s an honor to work with a prestigious company like them.
This position requires me to learn new skills, and I’m seeking a more challenging role to enhance my skills…And working with a prestigious multinational like this company would be an honor for me.
You can target their mission statement and can appreciate their projects. For this, you must know a company before appearing for a job interview. You know why you need to get to know the company and associate yourself with its mission statement. Because when you focus on the positive aspect of seeking career opportunities, you shouldn’t provide them an image that you are not loyal. You must not create an image that you just follow benefits, and you don’t associate yourself with the company… You are just an opportunity seeker who moves on …So do find an association and reason to show respect and passion for working with them. This is the balance that is required… But candidates miss this and wonder where they did the mistake.
CONCLUSION
When you talk about growing your career, it gives an ambitious outlook to your personality, a person who focuses on learning and growing. So a safe answer revolves around seeking growth opportunities and building a promising career.
